Pen Picture:
I was elected in May 2007. I have lived in South Derbyshire for 10 years and I am currently a District Councillor for Hartshorne and Ticknall Ward. Currently I sit on the Housing and Community Services Committee and Standards Committee as well as a number of sub-committees and in the recent County Council elections, I was elected to represent the Midway and Hartshorne area.
I have been actively involved with a number of groups and organisations such as Community Transport, Swadlincote 50+ Forum, Neighbourhood Watch, to name but a few. I am also a school governor at Granville Community School. I am keen to promote the area and will be supporting as many activities and organisations as possible within South Derbyshire.
I am originally from north London and left school at 15 when I went into retail as a shop assistant in a supermarket. After completing a City and Guilds in business and retail merchandising I went to work for Tesco for eight years.
At 21 I became the youngest supermarket manager in the country and eventually became a district manager. I then went on to work for a Chrysler dealership in Ilford for three years. From there I moved to Texas Homecare and moved up the career ladder to become Operations Director. I decided to leave Texas when they were taken over by Homebase. Afterwards I went to work as a trouble-shooter for the former Gateways supermarket chain. When I left Gateway, I moved to Budgens and worked at their flagship store in Bayswater. Five years later I set up a pine furniture company with a group of friends. When I moved to South Derbyshire I set up my own property maintenance business.
